Abstract

From the viewpoint of researchers, the escalation of extremism – especially in two strategic regions of the world, the Middle East and Europe – is somehow related to Islam. According to this approach, the emergence and empowerment of Right extremist and nationalist parties of Europe in the last two decades is related to the increasing presence of Islam in this region. Moreover, extremism in the Middle East and North Africa, especially after the rise of Taliban, Al-Qaeda and ISIS, is analyzed along with terms such as Islamism and Jihadism – which shows their religious and Islamic features. In this article – which simply declares a stance and viewpoint – an inquiry is made about opportunity or opportunities for cultural exchanges between Iran and Europe – with an emphasis on Sweden. From the perspective of this article, although the present conditions in the Middle East and Europe have created many threats because of religious and non-religious extremist groups, they have produced a historical opportunity for increasing and improving cultural activities and exchanges by acquainting the politicians with the strategic necessity of cross-cultural understanding in order to prevent extremism.
